savage 12FV 22-250

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MILDOT : One Thread

I just bought a Savage 12FV in the 22-250 cal. After reading some of the letters and finding out it has a 1 in 9 twist, what bullets will I be able to use with good accuracy. I never was quite able to figure this twist vs bullet thing. Plus,I have really always been a fan of the 30 cal...Please advise me on this bullet selection thing,as I have several box's of .224 dia. bullets bought from an auction a few years ago...

Get rid of the 12FV or w/e and buy a Savage 110 in the .22-250, most accurate small caliber rifle I've ever shot, by small caliber I mean somethin under .30 ex. .243 .223, as far as reloading/loading rounds I have no idea, I'm a youngin lol. But in all honestly the 110 is the best rifle savage has to offer, and it's quite affordable, especially if a 15 year old could buy it.

Hey John, sorry I hadn't got back to your email yet. I'm taking the ol girl out today and trying someloads from 32 - 35.6, all with a 55 grain FMJBT. I'll let ya know how it turns out via email.

Hornady 55 V-Max and RL 15. Start at 32, 32.5, 33 and 33.5. Seat the bullets about .05 off tha lands and you should be able to do 1/2 to sub 1/2 inch groups all day.

I started using it about six years ago and was concerned about it's ability to meter thru my RCBS powder measure; However, thru tests I have found that I can take five cases and fill them up with anything from 33.4 thru 33.6 or 7 grains and still shoot sub 1/2 inch groups.

Check out www.beartoothbullets.com and click on LoadSwap. Then scroll down to "view rifle loads" and you will find a whole host of loads complete with comments.

Now what are you waiting for.....Getta Move ON!

I have to correct my own letter. And that is to say the twist is 1 in 12 not 1 in 9 as I satated befor..So which bullets are good to use in the 1 in 12 twist barrel..
