Tried Downloading numerous Softwear, VCDs still won't play

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I tried upgrading my Media Player to MediaPlayer9 series, downloading Lalim Softwear (auto-opening VCD player that operates from CD-ROM), and using other softwear such as RealPlayer 1, Quick Time, and even my WinAmp player. For some reason, my VCD can't even be read by my computer as any sort of file (.dat, etc.)Do I need a certain hardware? I have both a CD-ROM and DVD-ROM on my computer. I'm not very computer literate, but it would be much appreciated if I could get some help.

If it would clarigy my situation, I received these VCDs for Christmas. The color of one side of my VCD is purple. I know regular DVDs are gold, games are black, and CDs are typically blue. I don't know if color has anything to do with format, but...

Thanks for your time! Bettina hikari1612@netzero.net

Any PC software DVD player, such as Win DVD or Power DVD, should also be able to play VCDs on your PC. Your VCDs were obviously made to CD-R discs, so I suppose it could be a problem if the person who made them didn't know what they were doing and botched it, but most likely you just need a software DVD player. I think that http://www.vcdhelp.com might have a list of software VCD players and you could look at that. Windows Media Player 9 does some weird stuff with copyright management and it might be causing you a problem, but I don't know. You might want to download a trial version of a software DVD player, see if it works, and buy it if it does.
