Poe has some history attacking individuals. Longfellow, I believe, was one of his targets.Search for Poe and Longfellow and see what you get.

Hop Frog, The Man Who was all used up. On authority and war. Though generally apolitical, Poe could shower acid on any wrongdoer, but he lived in a time of general peace and growth. His attempts to get a government job or serve in the tiny military(irelevant dead end, Poe thought) were equally and totally disappointing.
