And He Shall Be Called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6)

The WELS has this wonderful radio program called "Message from the Master". The past 3 weeks they did a little series on Isaiah 9:6. My husband and I have enjoyed them very much. If you would like to download them and listen to them on the web with your Media Player, you can find them at: http://www.wels.net/cgi-bin/site.pl?331&ceTopic_topicID=303

God bless and Merry Christmas! :)

There is also another radio program called "Music for the Master". I just listened to it. They did the most amazing version of "O Come, O Come Emmauel" that I have ever heard! I had no idea that it was Gregorian Chant! :)

O come, O come, Emmanuel And ransom captive Israel That mourns in lonely exile here Until the Son of God appear Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free Thine own from Satan's tyranny From depths of Hell Thy people save And give them victory o'er the grave Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Day-Spring, come and cheer Our spirits by Thine advent here Disperse the gloomy clouds of night And death's dark shadows put to flight. Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Key of David, come, And open wide our heavenly home; Make safe the way that leads on high, And close the path to misery. Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, O come, Thou Lord of might, Who to Thy tribes, on Sinai's height, In ancient times did'st give the Law, In cloud, and majesty and awe. Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel.

The above is an English translation of a great 700-year-old (pre-Protestant) Latin hymn, "Veni, veni, Emmanuel."

It was composed in the 13th century and first published in a hymnal that had "Catholic" in its title. (Marty Luther was then merely a nightmare in his great-great-great-great-grandfather's sleep.)

Prudent Catholics will not be tuning in to a radio station run by a tiny anti-Catholic sect (WELS, Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod). They would be likely to run into all kinds of theological errors in such a place. Why waste time there, when Catholic broadcasts are available?:

If you say so:) We kept the good and only threw out the bad! I know that Steve will enjoy it.

John.... can you tell me please why we call Jesus the "Prince of Peace"? The angels proclaimed at Jesus' birth, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." Did Jesus bring peace to the world? Afterall, aren't we in a war today in Iraq and Afghanistan? Thanks:)

Ah yes the great old, very very old, question of Theodicy. But of course why should a protestant care about such things? Why should a protestant care about sin?

But you follow Martin Luther, who might have been a humanist during his time on earth but wasn't a very good one since he couldn't use logic.

Salvation requires Faith Faith is shown through (requires) Works So Salvation requires Works

How about answering the question please? Or doesn't anyone know?

still waiting....

The angels proclaimed at Jesus' birth, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."

No, they said, "Glory to God in the Highest, and on earth peace to men of good will."

Big difference.

Ok! still doesn't answer my question! In Isaiah 9:6 it says, "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Why do we call Jesus the Prince of Peace? Has he brought everlasting peace to the world? Doesn't anyone know?

The peace that Christ brings is described in the following quote taken from the Vatican Website:

‘The liberation offered by Christ removes, in addition to sin, the obstacles preventing friendship and a covenant relationship with God. From this standpoint it is a reconciliation.Paul wrote to the Christians of Corinth: "God... through Christ reconciled us to himself" (2 Cor 5:18). This reconciliation is obtained by the sacrifice of the Cross. From it flows that peace which consists in the fundamental agreement of the human will with the divine. This peace not only affects relations with God, but also concerns relations between human beings. Christ "is our peace", because he unites all who believe in him, reconciling them "to God in one body" (cf. Eph 2:14-16).’

God can never be blamed for a world without peace, since God is only good. Our wars and conflicts throughout the world are always the fault of mankind turning away from God.

Only God is perfect!

May He bless you and keep you, may He give you His peace!

Jeannie,

You said, rather abrasively,

‘Oh Very Good!!!! Took you long enough though!’

To whom are you referring? If you mean me, I’ve just returned to the forum after months of absence, and posted my previous posting approximately five minutes after reading your posts on this thread. It’s extremely easy to answer questions such as yours as the Church has been asked them many times before and, since she has the fullness of truth, has answers to the said questions.

‘Coulda just gone to http://www.wels.net/cgi-bin/site.pl? 2617&contentID=6983&collectionID=9&seq=5’

As the Church does have that fullness of truth, it’s obvious that anyone interested in Christology need look no further than the Church of Christ Himself, the Catholic Church, for answers. Therefore, it’s unnecessary to go any further than www.vatican.va

Incidentally, Jeannie, I’m surprised you thought that forum regulars here were unable to answer your ’question’ (which you obviously knew the answer to anyway). From what I’ve seen in the recent deluge of your threads the forum stalwarts have been more than capable of responding to any of your posts.

May He bless you and keep you, may He give you His peace.

Jmj

Jeanie, I'm not sure if I should post this message, because I expect you to be banned and this thread to be deleted, but ...

You don't understand the concept of this CATHOLIC discussion forum, missy.

This is not an "instant-messaging" "chat-board," wherein people are waiting with bated breath for the next challenge from dorky Prots like you?

This is a place where you could leave a question -- and possibly no one at all would see it for hours. You must be patient. And if you direct a question to a specific person, you have to be EXTRA patient, because that person may not see the question for a day or two or more!

Next, the forum does not exist for anti-Catholics like you to "quiz" Catholics and try to stump them. Read the forum's rules and obey them ... or GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE.

May God forgive you.
John

What he said to me was RUDE! ....And I didn't like it. In fact, you are all RUDE!

well, granted that youve come here, into OUR forum, to call us WRONG, i dont see any problem with the statement that we have no need of a protestant radio station which plays old catholic hymns. in fact, your calling US rude seems to me like a pot calling the kettle black. If you'd like to carry out your anti catholic hatred somewhere where you wont have to deal with intellectual repost to the point where you have to just ignore the logic and the scripture, id suggest you head over to the "ask Jesus" forum. there, at least, you'll not be in violation of the rules of the forum.

AGAIN you show your hypocracy in calling US rude...

I wouldnt be here in your Mary Worshipping forum if that thread calling Martin Luther a heretic didn't exist!

first off, this is OUR forum. we may have whatever threads we wish because this is a CATHOLIC refuge. not a place for you to harp on our church. It is my hope that a person as rude, hypocritical, close-minded, ignorant, slanderous, bigoted, and hateful as you is banished from this forum. not because you have us licked, but because you cant read enough to carry on a sensible conversation logically.

I wasn't looking for you! You found me with your slander of a man whom I have great respect for!

i thought you didnt have anyone between you and your "personal relationship" with Jesus. how is it that you worship martin luther? Why do you worship someone who unknowingly tried to destroy what Christ built? all you do is sling verses at us, but lets talk about revelations beast rising up. the catholic church was ALREADY THERE. it was already around for over 1.5 THOUSAND years. it wasnt rising up at all. what WAS rearing its ugly head was the beast of protestantism, and at its forefront, martin luther. the head of the beast of revelations. have a nice day worshiping the beast
