SVD 7.62x54R

Hi. I've heard conflicting stories about the SVD (Dragunov) rifles [ that they suck, they are unimpressive, they are good] and wanted to see what some others thoguht. Any experience with them? I understand that powerwise they are between .308 and .30-06, with accuracy being close to that of the .30-06. Also, any thoughts of both Choate sniper stocks and AI sniper stocks. Thinking about buying a Winchester 70 and putting one of those and a Shepperd scope on it.

Thanks. Appreciate the help.

The dragunov is contrary to popular opinion a very acurate weapon. The soviets still use it as a sniper rifle. the accuracy is (for a semi-auto)exceptional. I own the tigerII sporter version still wearing the factory stock, and out to 800 yds I'd put it against anything. Bar None. Beyond that I'd have to have a bolt action like the mossin-nagant of the same caliber, or a barret.50 cal. Just my opinon though. Jake
