I'm trying to compile a poster on famous dyslexics, and from reading web pages on the topic, I gleaned that Poe was supposed to dyslexic. However I cannot find anything on the nature of his dyslexia and I would appreciate more information. Thanx Eli

This is news to me. Poe certainly had no trouble in school, no trouble reading or writing except that ceertain emtoional dispositions led him to favor short works of maximum impact. His handwriting is even and good. What evidence do you have?

Well there are a lot of "famous dyslexics" websites which claim that he was. However, though there is plenty of evidence to show he probably had a mood disorder, epilepsy, and generally something of a depressing life, I can find nothing which alludes to an actual learning disability.

Eli -- Every type of disorder trying to make a name for itself goes out of its way to claim as many famous and highly accomplished people as members of its ranks. It cuts the stigma and sky rockets the number of people who want to have it as a diagnosis, real or imagined. It's also great for fund raising. So don't believe everything you hear. And, P.S.: Epilepsy is not a mood disorder.

poe could have been dislexic, i was, i can read write, spell, and everything else a normal person can. if you learn to work with it early in life you adapt to it and it doesnt affect you. my husband has it, and he reads different then i do, and he i think is a brilliant man, so dont go thinking that if you have dislexia, you cant become anything because you can. no poe, may or may not have had it who really knows. and i mean absolutely no offense to you who say your related to him, but dislexia isnt a sure thing. you may or may not have it, he may or may not have it, you may even have it and not now about it, that means you had great parents, cuz they taught you to deal with it at a young age. but anyway to the original question was poe dislexic or not couldnt tell you but it is always a possibilty to a good chance.....thats what i think like it or not..
