Uh...Anime Songs...Does anyone but me know the lyrics without lookin' at them?...Or is that just me?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Animes : One Thread

So...Can anyone else learn these songs? I have...*counts*...111 Anime Songs, and I've memorized ALL of them (except for SPACE PEOPLE DBZ, cuz it's too damn HARD!!!!!). I've been thinking lately that it might be wierd, and that most people need lyrics to sing along...I'll download a song, listen to it for about a week with the lyrics, and after a while it just drills into my brain and I know it! So am I the only non-Japanese Anime fan out there that can do this, especially when I can only TRANSLATE about 1/2 the song?

Cool, so I'm not the only one then! Who's your favorite singer/band? Mine are Kageyama Hironobu, Rika Matsumoto, and Ougata Megumi for singers, and The Pillows is definately the greatest band.

for some songs I can, depending on how much I like them but it's not like I know most of the words in the song (not even half) so in a way I bet I sing it completely wrong, lol... 111 songs really are a lot of songs to know by heart.

I tend to remeber most of the songs when i listen to them but i like to hum the tunes more then sing the words ^^!

I prefer to listen to real music. There are only a couple songs from anime that I would listen to outside of just watching the anime.

Well, there are a few songs that were some of the first I got (Dan Dan Kokoro Hikarete'Ku and Don't You See! from Dragonball GT come to mind) before I had any knowledge of Japanese. I rarely listen to them, and when I "learned" them I'm pretty sure I sing them all wrong like you said. But for the rest I pretty much know them dead-on. And by "real music" I'm assuming you mean American, right? The music in Anime is also "real" music. Not only that, most of it is "real" GOOD music. There are some outrageously insane songs in Anime (Piccolo-san Daisuki (DBZ), Minna de Arukou (Pocket Monsters),Vegeta- sama no Ouryouri Jigoku (DBZ), or Maemuki ROKETTO dan! (Pocket Monsters)), or some that just plain suck (Detekoi! Tobikkiri Zenkai POWER!, the Dragonball Z 1st Closing Song, is the song I hate most in this world...Ick...), but the majority are real, high-quality songs. Oft-times by PROFFESSIONAL, even very popular at the time in Japan (Like Kageyama Hironobu, which is why he sings most of the Dragonball songs cuz he was popular at that time) sing them. I admit the first song I got (Sabitsuita MACHINE GUN De Ima wo Uchii Nukou from DBGT) I could tell was awesome, but I did find it wierd to be listening the Japanese music. But I was curious because at that point in my life I had only seen the Saiyajin Saga of Dubbed Dragonball Z (and by the way, as soon as I saw my first Japanese episode (Z Episode...153, I believe...when Cell absorbs #17, and remember I had only seen the Saiyajin Saga so it made no sense to me...¬_¬) I NEVER WENT BACK) and I wanted to know what kind of music the Japanese version used. I got more songs (I don't know why, cuz I HATE DBGT, but the first songs I got were ALL of the Dragonball GT ones...And GT has excellent music, I'll give it that), and became hooked. Well I've said enough stupid things, and sorry if all the parenthesis confused you. I do this all the time and my teachers yell at me...Well, just so you know Anime has "real" music too, it's not all crazy and wierd. Ja minna!

Of course you're not the only one!!

I don't know many of 'em but I do know them by heart. My first J- song was Give a Reason by Megumi Hayashibara. That was years ago and I can still sing that song! Now my faves are "Sanbun no ichi no junjou na kanjou" and "Heart of Sword (Yoake mae)" from Rurouni Kenshin. Though one that I still can't learn fully is "Nibun no ichi (1/2)". Too fast for me @.@ Actually, I love almost all the music from Ruroken ^ ^ And Inuyasha too. Especially "My will" and "Fukai Mori".

AND I DOWNLOADED LOTSA DAI(DO AS INFINITY) SONGS!!

Want the link?

I have all the songs you mentioned except Give a Reason and Sanbun no Ichi no Junjou na Kanjou (the latter is from Kenshin though, right? Haven't gotten around to it yet...Don't have many Kenshin songs...). Hanbun is actually how you pronouce 1/2, and it was pretty tough for a while too but I got usta it. I actually think that Sobakasu goes faster than Hanbun at certain parts!!!!! The fastest song I have is Pocket Monster's "Type: Wild!", which was pretty tough at first (I'd never heard Rika Matsumoto speak so fast!) but I know it now. It's only fast at parts anyway, but REEEEEEAAAAAALLLLLLLY fast. But cool, at least I'm not the only one. I just wondered cuz lots of lyrics sites state "if you plan on singing Anime songs at Anime conventions you'll need lyrics" and stuff, so I wondered if I was a special case as I'm not a Japanese person. Thanks for all the responses!!!
