I would have to say that Poe is my all time favorite writer... The man was brilliant, though kind-of sick in his way, none the less- he in my opinion was the best writer of all time!

Perhaps he is toying with his own notoriety from popular belief that his gruesome subeject matter had something to do with his real life. In any event Poe starts off the poiece like a journalistic piece relating the oddity and titillating character of the scary subject then plunging into detailed anecdotes of actual occurrences of premature burial. Now, thoroughly upset by the realism, the reader is presented with act two- the parallel of Poe's nature and predilections in this regard and then one nightmarish expereince which dissolves into anticlimactic self-mocking comedy, bringing the read back full circle to normality.

In other words like a news article that exemplifies and jokes around he crafts it into a type of his serious Gothic fiction to again play with the reader's who, like Poe, enjoy the mysteries and the traps.
