How did Edgar Allan Poe die?

I don't think anyone really knows. There are so many theories floating about (and many of them are valid).

He disappeared for 3 days on pressumably what people believe to have been one of his drinking binges, showed up 3 days later in a gutter in Boston. He was delirious and weak, died three days later in the hospital. His obituary said he died from "congestion of the brain."

It has been said that Edgar Allan Poe used drugs and drank because his nervous system was becoming extremely sensitive [probably because of all the bad things he had to deal with throughout his life] and he believed that doing drugs and drinking would rid him of the pain. Reportedly Poe died of Lobar Pneumonia complicated by transient retardation (or depression) which is prostratium affecting the brain resulting from exposure and encephalitis (or inflamation of the brain).
