There are specific liturgical guidelines for Catholic sunday worship in lieu of Mass, for situations where Mass is not possible because of the unavailability of a priest. There are specific prayers to be said by the worship leader, including the scripture readings of the day, and responses by the congregation. A communion service is to be included if consecrated hosts are available from a previous visit by a priest.

Apparently some changes to this liturgical rite are underway, though I didn't realize that was so.
