Bullet Tracking Using Spotting Scope

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MILDOT : One Thread

Hello

Went shooting Sunday. It was a Sniper match with a spotter. I showed up With my issued 303, no scope, but they let me shoot fig 11 up to 575 m. I used a spotting scope perhaps it was not the best, we could not see where the shells hit. My Question is, can you tell where the shell may hit, or have a good idea through experience, by watching the the hot shell (vapor) fly down range in cold weather when spotting for the shooter. A wild Question, I have to ask. All I could see was the flash and no indication of a hit near target so I could compensate. Kelly 1 CRPG

it is posable to watch your bullet travel just takes some practise i place the shooter and target is the bottom of the feild of view (sit behind them )(them =shooter)its just time watching you will pick up where the projectile has hit, my old instructor was able to call out my score before the target had been raised from the butts at ranges of 900-800m and the (and the old cunt never got it wrong)
