Now and Then Here and There

I heard this anime was supposed to be sad. I also heard people saying that cruel things happen in the anime. Can anyone tell me what cruel things happened? I don't mind spoilers, but make sure you put a notice for spoilers because I don't want to ruin it for other people who are planning on watching it.

Basically it's about a kendo kid that got teleported to another world when he was trying to save a girl. In that world he was being held prisoner and is forced to work for a militaristic leader. He vows to find a way to save the girl and stop the army at ransacking more villages. I've only seen short segments of it from several eps, and I can't call it a sad or depressing anime. Cruel things such as slaughtering villagers did happen, but it's nothing compared to Saikano.

Torture, Rape, Abuse, Death.. It's all done tastefully though- great scripting with well-developed characters... who all die. One of my faves ^^; A very profound lesson behind it all as well. Reccomended.

Wow, I was just about to ask this question but i guess she did it for me. I don't think I'll be watching this anime. I can't really handle depressing things.

It does have a fairly happy ending though.. despite the depressing points. Also the mix of character development and action is good. Everything happens for a reason. ^_^
