I am behind a campus firewall and IRC works wonders for me. That and HTTP are the only ways I can do it.

best thing is to use kazza http & kazza++ How it work: connect you to sites that makes holes through the firewall the more people download the fastest it goes

I believe the only way the universities can cap bt is by limiting the transfer rate of upload and download from one person, so say if there is 100 peers you can still get 200 KB download or upload on a torrent.

I'm behind a campus firewall and kazaa doesn't work for me too. They cut off ports on the server and I only got port 80 (HTTP) . Does anyone knows how to make kazaa or bittorrent work with proxy?(kazaa's proxy didn't work for me)

Theres a program called Ares... it is like an underground KazaaLite. Just go to http://www.download.com and search for it there. It's what I use at my school :-).

If your behind a campus firewall (which I am) your pretty much screwed when it comes to downloading via P2P apps. My campus blocked all ports other than 20,80. Http's are so hard to find HQ since Matlab's site went down. I'm sure you could still use FTP on port 21 but good luck finding it. I only know a few private FTP's and that took a lot of searching. If you have a laptop, go down to you student union or library. If not, get an external HD and download from computer labs. Those methods will be unfirewalled. Good luck.
