VCD in black and withe

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

When I play video-cds with my Phillips DVD-703 with a Phillips Tv (I think is 21PT529A), I only see the image (movies) in black and white, but the vcd's play fine on my PC or with others DVD. No problems playing DVDs. I bought this in Chile.

Any help will be appreciated.

The other post is correct. You have a PAL-NTSC mismatch. I read that Chile uses the NTSC system for TV - is this correct? If this is correct, that means that your DVD player is not converting PAL VCD to a NTSC TV signal. As the other post said, look at the settings for your DVD player and see if you can select NTSC TV output. Some DVD players do not allow you to change the TV output so if you can't change it, you will have to buy another DVD player that can convert PAL->NTSC and NTSC->PAL.
