Unitek resistance electrode suppliers in Canada

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Resistance Welding : One Thread

Hello, I acquired a Unitek resistance welding handpiece and have not been able to find any info on it. Managed to make it spotweld by rewinding the secondary of a 1200 watt microwave oven power transformer with a one turn secondary and powering this with a variac. With this setup, I can vary the voltage from 0 to 1.6 vac. Well, guess what? As soon as I got my first reasonable weld done, on a link of a medialert bracelet, one of the electrodes broke, probably because I used too much pressure on it. The handpiece is black Bakelite, about the size of a pack US cigarettes with 2 chromed 1/4 in dia rods about 1.5 in long, into which the electrodes are screwed. One of the rods pivots inside the case, closing the electrodes and then closing a microswitch through which I wired the primary of the variac. The electrodes are threaded 6-32 with a chrome 7/32 locknut. Does anyone know where I can find replacements in Canada? Regards
