It`s an interesting article. It just shows that the Fast Tracks`s Network (Kazaa) is not that strong in every part of the world. It doesn`t mention Bittorrent, but a site like suprnova.org has around 900 000 views per day...

North America

While it may be true that FastTrack is the dominant network in North America with 76% of all P2P bandwidth utilization, its reign as the top community assumes a very cultural and demographic boundary. Interestingly, the second most popular P2P network, according to Sandvine, is WinMX, with 15%. Coming in third and forth is Gnutella (8%) and eDonkey2000 (<1%). The charts below, courtesy of Sandvine, represent the total usage of a P2P network by percentage.

Germany

Many that access eDonkey in North American may wonder how this network can have less than 1% of all traffic yet still be so resourceful. This 1% is only representative of North America.

This is where things get a bit interesting. In Germany, a country of 80 million plus individuals, the story is much different. While FastTrack is certainly popular, its takes a second seat to eDonkey, which covers over 52% of all P2P traffic. FastTrack comes in at a decent 44%, while WinMX takes a bit over 3% and Gnutella is virtually non-existent.

Israel

Statistics also suggest file-sharing in Israel has taken on a similar look to Germany; as eDonkey has the lions share of P2P activity with 52% of all traffic. FastTrack takes a health second with 47%, while WinMX and Gnutella take less than a percent each.

United Kingdom

Although the UK may appear similar in P2P usage to North America, there's one important difference. WinMX and eDonkey are both wildly popular networks, with a combined total of approximately 40% of all traffic. FastTrack remains the most popular, with 59% of all traffic. Again, Gnutella barely registers with traffic hovering at just 1%.

Norway

Another P2P hot spot, Norway, was also sampled. FastTrack took in the top spot, with 77% of all traffic, however, eDonkey (12.7%) and WinMX (10%) took in healthy numbers as well. Gnutella was a non-factor with 0.3% of P2P traffic.
