I have a friend who purchased a Tasco Super Sniper and mounted it on his .308. This scope was left over from a military contract. Even though I don't have a lot of experience shooting, it makes sense that if a SEAL team uses them, it's good enough for me! For that price, wow, who can beat it?

I have been a USMC Scout/Sniper for over 5 years now and I have used just about every type of scope you could think of and I gotta tell you there sinply is not enough differance to make it matter. I have dropped many ragheads at over 1000 meters and all thise shots I could have done just as easy with the Tasco and that is the truth end of story. All the rest is just bull

Hello gentlemen,

I figure I'd enter my ten cents in this thing. I am retired SWAT officer who has worked with and trained with many other SOG's. I want to make clear that I do agree with the guys supporting TASCO first of all and here's why. In sniper competitions and schools we always see those guys...the ones equipped with every expensive toy you can get...who enter in with their Hk Sniper rifles, custom sniper rifles, their 10 to 25 thousand dollar sniper rifles....equipped with all very high end and very expensive scopes. Now....I love Hk products, Blaser rifles, those pretty little expensive scopes, etc. Basically I know what is truly good. The questions are this...why then do these guys lose to the grunts who are equipped with a $800 Remington 700 VS with a Simmons and Tasco Scope? Bottom line is the user has to be the one that finally places all of these things in functional order. If you don't know how to use all that fancy shit, you'll still miss at 1000 yards. I must agree that some cheaper stuff out there won't keep zero on high powered rifles. Return it. But I have used scopes at this price and they generally begin to extinguish the shortcomings of a $50 to $100 scope. Hell, even some of the $100 Simmons stuff beats some high end scopes. Case and point...a Microsoft guy here in WA state spent about $5000 with a nicely setup Blaser. He probably spent days trying to figure the damn thing out. For those of you like him, it's not a video game where you pick it up and instantly have "Point of Aim, Point of Impact". Sniping or even target shooting at distances to 1000 yards is a science and there are a whole lot of variables to consider. He returned the rifle and lost $800 in the process (I am sure it did not hurt his wallet). It isn't the price boys...it has to be tested (and the military tested Tasco), and finally endure what we SOG guys call "combat tested". If, at a thousand yards I hit a target with a Schmidt&Bender scope and with a TASCO I am 1/4'" to 1/2" from the hole the S&B made...well I am not going to pay up to $1700 for that 1/2". You do the math. I am certain that with a rifle zeroed for me, I will hit you with one shot to any place I point a Tasco. Yes, I was SWAT, but Marine snipers are among the most accurate shooters I have seen. The Jarheads I had the pleasure of meeting were using Remington 700's with Tasco scopes.

fuck if I know, but it sure was fun reading what everyone else said.

Dick, you are right. So many times thru the years I have seen people think that if sometnig is super expensive, it must be the best. I admit most of the time this is true. But, in the case of the super sniper serries, it is NOT! I have a Leupold 10X42 tactical and my Super Sniper is as good and in some ways better. For example, the turrets on my super sniper are FAR superior, as they are far better than my Springfield 4-14X56 SA, and my buddies SN-4! Shit, the SN-4 is a friggin 1400.00 dollar scope from the cheapest place I could find it! The optics are on par with the Luepold and better than the Springer! I feel these test I did warrent the scope, at any price up to at least $1000.00. By the way for all you schmos out there, Tasco does not make this scope, it is made by Hakko ( for Tasco USA) , the finest Japanise scope maker!

I have a 16x Super Sniper purchased from www.riflescopes.com (SWFA) for $299. It is a really nice scope for the money. I am just punching paper with it not using it in combat. But for putting holes in paper at out to 1000 yards it works great. It is mounted on a Bushmaster Varminter and has performed great. I would imagine that the government testing it went through to earn a US Navy contract must have been very intense. If it's good enough for Uncle Sam it is good enough for me. Why spend $1000 to get the same level of performance you can get for $299?

Ok everyone. Especially you guys totally thrashing on the Super sniper serries of scopes. I'm about to send you back to sniper school! I have tested the Super sniper against my three other scopes, the Leo VXIII tactical, The SA 5095SA and the Schmidt & Bender 10X42. All are mil dot save for the SA which is of the really bitchin 7.62 BDC type reticule. Only the SA has front element reticule but the fixed focal leingth units don't need it. This means the BDC and Range estimator reticule moves with the zoom so it is in theory accurate at all focal settings and distances. Of all of them, the best optical quality are suprisingly enough the S&B and the Super sniper! The SA and Leo are great, but not aas good in all conditions as the other two. Now all you guys calling the Tasco a peice, you either hav'nt seen one or used one because they are FAR from being that! If the thing was a peice I would not use it to take out the bad guys on duty! Also, the Navy Seals probably not have replaced the M3 with it ....as they did! PS: I was a US Army Sniper for 8 years assigned to the 10th SF GP and used the M21 and the M40A1, I wish I had had a SS for the M21 as well as the M40! The issue scopes were great but times change and technology marches on!!!

Would you recommend the "M" model with the parallax adjustment knob on the left side or the standard model with the rear parallax adjustment? Is there any other difference between the two?

-- Petur (psp@psp.is), January 13, 2004.

tasco scopes are good for your bb gun!!! bottom line you get what you pay for.

Not sure I'd trust the one guy's opinion that couldn't even spell sniper. Smokey

Try reading the reviews on this scope at www.snipercountry.com they rated it very well...I know a few people that have either a 10x or the 16x...they are very pleased for the money...another options is to check for a Isreali surplus Kahles 6x42mm fixed...with m118 BDC....great scope and can be found for around $350...A 6 Power scope gives you good center mass shooting out to around 700 meters...Kahles offers different cams if you don't shoot a 7.62mm aka: .308.....GOOD LUCK AND TIGHT GROUPS!

tasco's are like having shit all over your clases ppl i cant say this enough why buy a good ($2000) rifle and put a $300 heep of shit on it leupold , S&B ,Swarovski are the only scopes that will preform under all conditions and not fuck up

-- pffft (idonthaveonce@sorry.cc), November 11, 2003.

I have a Tasco super sniper myself. 16x42.This scope is really worth the 300$. When you look thrugh the lens the picture is ok for this price. The knobs and klicks on the scope is very good.Try to get it with the mildot. There is only one problem and that is the scope dosen't have adjustable objectiv......MR TP. Look at this sides startpage.Thats my rifle with the scope........

Hi again, Saw an ad, selling the 10x42, 16x42 and the 20x42 for about 299$ i think. For that kind of money i think you can take the risk. If i where you, aīd buy the 10x42. Otherwise, i donīt like ém, the quality is not that good, bad clarity, canīt compare them to a highend german sight, say hensold, schmith&bender or leupold for that matter. On the other hand, they are about 1000$ cheaper. Check out the Leupold vari-III 3,5-10x40 tactical with mildot recticle instead.
