Seek copy of letter issued by Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

I am looking for a copy (preferably translated into english) of what is apparently an obscure/uncirculated Church document.

The document, the April 11, 1973 letter to Bishops authored by Cardinal Seper, regarding the Marriage Sacrament issued by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith is quoted often in 'pastoral' circles --I would like to read it myself...

Maybe one out there can send me a copy or refer me to a source...

Here is a link that references it:Lettera riguardante l’indissolubilità del matrimonio (Litterae circulares de indissolubilitate matrimonii et de admissione ad Sacramenta fidelium qui in unione irregolari vivunt)

Thanks.

Sincerely in Christ,

Daniel///

The misinterpretation of that document is described about 1/3 of the way into this HPR article: http://www.ewtn.com/library/MARRIAGE/REMARDIV.TXT

CDF followed up in 1975 for confused bishops, but some still got it wrong.

Yes--

The 1975 document you refer to is apparently an even more obscure/uncirculated Church document.

The March 21, 1975 'clarification' letter to US Bishops authored by Archbishop Jerome Hamer, secretary of the Office of the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith is also ocassionally quoted in 'pastoral' circles --I would also like to read this one myself...

Meanwhile, I found an interesting document (RTF format) that discusses the Cardinal Seper Letter 'controversy' in some detail:

I would assume that the letter would be reprinted in Canon Law Digest. Volume 8 covers 1973 through 1977. I would check, but my library's holdings only go through volume 6.

Why did I think it was the ''Society for the Propagation of the Faith?'' Are you talking about a different group?

Eugene,

The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith was originally called the Sacred Congregation of the Universal Inquisition as its duty was to defend the Church from heresy.
