Mini in Downtown NYC?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : zipcar : One Thread

Hello, I was wondering if there are any plans to add a Mini somewhere in Lower Manhattan any time soon? Granted, it was very nice to see Beetle Bella placed in Tribeca, but now that there is a crispness in the air, I'm starting to get jealous of those lucky customers further uptown that can take one of the three Minis up there out for a spin. Don't mind me too much though; I'm not complaining, just curious about future plans.

And I have one just a few blocks from my house. We have no immediate plans, but as we add members we will add more cars, so maybe as we get closer to the holidays.

Dear Roy, The fact that you have a Zipcar Mini near your house is irrelevant to Jacob's question, except that it makes you look like someone who can't resist an opportunity to gloat. This is highly inappropriate on your part, since you have considerable seniority at Zipcar, and so can be sure to have whatever you please in your neighborhood space.

Jacob, The truth of the matter is that demand in NYC for Zipcars is growing slowly, and so new cars will appear only as fast as the demand. This is a necessary fact of any business that needs to balance its books.

Jonathan,

Thanks for your input. I do understand that Zipcar has to consider business concerns when it decides when and where to place automobiles. I was mainly curious if they had any existing plans for other downtown cars, but I don't think I was being petulant or unrealistic about it. It's a great service, and I'll continue driving a Jetta without any real complaints.

Jacob, I didn't mean to imply that you were being forward or impatient, just understandably curious. It was Roy who was being weird. By the way, he sent me an apology for appearing to gloat. I just thought that you'd like to know, since he didn't appear to send the apology to you, who should have received it. I wholly agree with you about Zipcar in general. I've been a blissful member for 3 years now, without a single regret. I've never rented a car with so little worries or troubles. If only all city dwellers could appreciate it as much as I do, we'd have no more traffic jams, and very little pollution. Keep on Zipp'n.
