picked up a nail in my rear tire today. I have a question about the rear wheel removal. Do I need to remove the nut on right hand side or both left and right to remove wheel. Also, what size is the nut? thanks.

It is a 55mm. Only the right side nut need be removed.

Remember when removing the wheel however that it is reverse thread. This means that you have to turn clockwise to loosen it and counter- clockwise to tighten. Be sure to torque the wheel to the specs painted on the wheel. I could not remove my wheel very easily because the local dealer overtightened it. Good luck.

The socket is a 55mm, however you need to use a dremmel tool to round the interior points off the socket. Note that the nut has rounded points and the socket will not fit unless modified.

Just go and buy the standard equivalent which is 2 13/16. Fits like a glove and you don't have to grind anything. Best of all, if you're in the US, Sears sell them for $25 and they have it in stock.

JJ - wish I'd read this 2 year ago. The 55mm cost me a fortune in the UK!! And the bloody dealers still wrench the nut on too tight - mines a mess now. Hint: Buy a small calibrated torque wrench and continually check the two eccentric hub clamping bolts 30-32 Nm. If the dealer does these too much say bye-bye to your rear bearings.

JJ.... Getting ready to order a socket from Sears.. wanted to clarify.. I recall some gut at another site saying to get a 2 3/16th socket.. not 2 13/16th ...

Can you (or anyone else) confirm before I spend $30 on the wrong one?

I believe 2 3/16 is the nearest metric conversion from 55mm.

Pirate, yes you're right..... it's 2 3/16. Sorry for the typo, but like I said it fits tight and perfect and needs no modifications. Best $24.99 I've ever spent on the MV.

i found out that a ford transit van wheel hub nut socket fits only cost aprox 5 pounds at my local car motor factors +no waiting to order socket hope this helps every one paul
