Re:My Complaint about making fun of last phonecalls from victims of Sept 11 on abc program cnnnn on sept 11,

I felt it just went to far so I complained

I appreciate humour but thought it was best left alone

may be I am not modern enough

Hopefully bALI has been left out of their sights so far

I think They have no valid complaints procedure, only a wall of defense to ensure everything they do is ok

They can do no wrong

Keitha, you do not seem to have comlained to the correct person. What is the "committee" that is referred to in the response?

-- Anonymous, September 24, 2003

Tom, they wrote their reply to me without even talking to members of their committee

The committee had ever heard of my complaint when the ABC staffer sent their reply

I could not imagine any secretarial staff hold a delegation to that level.

If so,their name should appear on this list

The current Panellists are:

Mr Ted Thomas, Convenor, former General Manager of Channel 7, Sydney. Ms Margaret Jones, Deputy convenor, journalist, author and former member of the Australian Press Council. Professor Michael Chesterman, Former Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of NSW, part-time Commissioner of the Australian Law Reform Commission, part-time judge NSW, teacher and commentator on media law. Mr Stepan Kerkyasharian, NSW Ethnic Affairs Commissioner, formerly of SBS Radio. Mr Bob Johnson, former Executive Editor John Fairfax Ltd, Director of News and Current Affairs, Seven Network (Australia) and General Manager, Macquarie Broadcasting Holdings Ltd.

You may have some influence. What should I do ? I want CNNN to apologise on air

so simple... they say

from time to time, humour such at that on CNNN treads a line between what is furphy and what is a tradgedy... On Sept 11 CNNN broadcast an item concerning the last phone calls from victims in the world trade tower/CNNN was not to know that watching were friends of some of those trapped...who died. The ABC in no way condoned this item

On reflection,CNNN apologises

I would have sacked the lot and given the remaing budget to rural, however

You'll never get an apology or admission from "everyones ABC", keitha. Makes you feel like witholding the portion of taxes that fund the biased old bag, doesn't it? If only we could!!

I watch CNNNN every week. I think it is the funniest program on Australian television. It is great! If you don't like it, then it is because you have no sense of humour.

I suggest that if you don't like it, then DON'T WATCH IT! There are plenty of people like me who do watch it, and like it. No one program on television will satisfy everyone's tastes, that is we have diversity.

Well good for you, Tom! I can understand you and your ilk falling out of your chairs over that one! Just don't ask all Australians to fund the biased rubbish.

So, Kate you're a fan of the Howard Government? You don't mind the fact that the Howard Government only acts for people who pay donations to the Liberal Party? Like Manildra, whom the govenrment is handing out millions of dollars in PUBLIC MONEY to? You don't mind public money going to Manildra, but you don't like public money going to children's educational televsion, namely Behind the News.

And HIH gave money to the Liberal Party. And Phillip Ruddock gives out refugee visas in return for money for his relection fund. You like corrupt government do you?

Yes Tom, I'm a great fan of the Howard Government, the best damned Goverment with the best Prime Minister this great country of ours has seen for 50 years!

That you are not, Tom, is painfully obvious from your froth mouthed rantings that "grace " this site.

Just like your beloved tax-payer funded ABC, you despise that Howard Government and which-ever Minister heads the portfolio!

Just to correct the record... the CNNNN item had nothing to do with phone calls made by 9/11 victims. If you'd actually watched the program, you'd realise the sketch was an attack on mobile phone owners who insensitively leave their phones on at inappropriate times - such as during a commmorative minute's silence. The joke was aimed at silly ringtones, not 9/11 victms.
