I think the most famous eulogy was that of the french poet Mallarme, "Le Tombeau d'Edgar Poe" written long after his death(Poe's, that is). You can probably get a translation. I am not sure what qualifies. He had many who wrote in his defense, an obituary that shamefully attacked his reputation. I think the obituary and the small funeral inhibited decent eulogies or recounts of his life made controversial by the charges.
