Nightforce scopes

Anyone here got a Nightforce and used it for field use? I know they are great off a bench but I have not a clue as to how they field. Weight? Top-heavy on a gat? Fog?

Cheers s

I have two NXS scopes … a 3.5-15x50 and a 5.5-22x56. They are fantastic scopes no question! But hunting scopes they are not.

They are to heavy and will put a normal mountain rifle out of balance. I use Leupold and Swarovski on my hunting rifles while the incredible NXS scopes are reserved for my long range and tactical rifles only.

The benchrest models are fabulous for hunting but the highly advertised NXS models SUX for hunting purposes.

1. The scope is only in focus when the parallex is set for exactly the distance of the target you are looking at. The deer that I hunt may be anywhere from 10 yards to 450 yards away and they are USUALLY moving-- sometimes quite fast. There is absolutely no way to adjust the parallex so that the scope is focussed. 2. The brightness of the NXS can only be adjusted by taking the cap off of the scope and adjust it with a knife blade or a very small screw driver. With the benchrest model, it will always be in focus at any range after the initial focus setting is done. The brightness of the light is controlled by the knob that you turn to turn it on with. Simply turn it more and the crosshairs get brighter. I spoke to Jeff Huber, the father of the NXS, about these two problems but he doesn't want to hear that his "baby" sux for a hunting scope and he refused to build me some more BR models in the 5.5-22X56. But if enough people will email Nightforce and request the BR models and tell about the problems with the NXS maybe they will make them again.

Good luck, Robert
