Is the Armalite AR30 in .338 Lapua an accurate rifle?

Yes in my opinion. I handload with 300 grain Sierra Matchkings. This gets my cost down to about $1 a round. I shot eight 5-shot groups about 3 weeks ago at 500 yards. The average for all ten groups counting EVERY round was 5.812". If I took out the one 9"+ group with a shot that was 5 inches away from the other 4, the average for all 8 groups dropped to 5.106". My smallest group was 3.124". The gun is VERY loud, but recoil is not too bad. Will try it at 1000 yards when deer season is over. I have a 1000 yd. range that cost $5 a day in NC.

Aside from the fact that "cheap" ammo is 60-70 bucks for a box of 20 rounds, I also lack an adequate scope with the magnification and MOA clicks to make a 1500-1800 yard shot. (never mind the lack of a gun range that supports 1500 yards) My own rifle came with a warning, to WARN ALL other shooters within 30 yards on either side of you EVERY time you make a shot due to exessive blast from the muzzle brake. (I dont think any of the LOCAL ranges here would like me much. SOO.......I have a few obstacles in my way before i find an answer to your question. From everything i've heard, the AR-30 series is quite accurate........but unless you plan on getting stuck with the same problems I face, seriously consider the 300 win mag or the 308 version. I knew nothing of the rifle before i bought it...now i need a 1500 dollar scope, a long range shooting club membership, and lets face it ammo that costs3-4 dollars PER ROUND. I'ttl take a box of ammo, and several painkillers just to sight it in. BUT, I DO hope to answer this question hopefully by christmas. I want to know myself!
