H.S. Precision HTR - Steyr PlV

Ok, first the H.S. Precision HTR.

I am looking at one in 300win mag and I am looking for feed back and comments from those who have had something to do with them. Recoil isn’t an issue as I don’t find it that bad in this heavy outfit.

This outfit is primarily for 500 - 1000m ranges and from what I can source the .300 is gaining more popularity due to better accuracy than the .308 at these ranges?

Can anyone help with this??? Comments on the HTR and the .300win mag???

Thank You

Tony.

Update on the PIV for those who may be interested.

All groups shot benchrest style of sandbags only.

RWS brass, CCI BR2 primer, 41.5gn AR2206, 168gn Sierra MK.

3 shot groups are giving a consistent average of 13mm c/c @ 100m 5 shot groups are giving a consistent average of 18mm c/c @ 100m

3 shot groups are giving a consistent average of 26mm c/c @ 200m 5 shot groups are giving a consistent average of 34mm c/c @ 200m

RWS brass, CCI BR2 primer, 42.2gn AR2206, 155gn Sierra Palma Match.

3 shot groups are giving a consistent average of 16mm c/c @ 100m

(I suspect the 15 inch I:10 twist HB is not suited to the Palma Match as 5 shot groups tend to blow out to just over MOA)

I tried some old ( 22yrs) Speer 140gn SP flat base projectiles that I had hidden in a drawer, for comparison I loaded 20 rounds and fired 6x3 shot groups with 45gn AR2206. The results were quite impressive with 3 shots repeatedly going into 11mm c/c (@100m)

I suspect for shorter ranges the Steyr likes the flat base??? Any comments???

Overall the Steyr has some issues, but they are minor. For the ‘out of box’ accuracy and a dedicated tactical look and feel I am still impressed and the PlV holds a respected place in my collection.
