What makes a seasoned Marriage Special?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread

What are some of the attributes that makes a seasoned marriage special. We know the Lord has to be in these marriages which goes without saying. when is a marriage seasoned? Is it after 20 years? Is it when the children are out of the house? When the careers goals have been met? When the financial goals have been met? when you enjoy just being with your mate? when you retire? When you share each others interests? When you can sit in a room without talking but still communicate?

Excellent question! I don't have the answer. How long one has been married is one, but not the only factor. Many long-term marriages are just waiting for the kids to grow up. Some try to help the marriage by having children son that could be a factor but not all. Retirement, perhaps; goals maybe. The ability to communicate without speaking....yes that's it.

Funny this question would be asked because just yesterday at church I was looking at how my wife is now begginning to show more grey hair. I meditated on how blessed I am to be called her husband after 11 years of marriage on September 26, 2003. Despite our ups and downs we are still together and I praise God for her as my wife, friend, confidant, lover and the mother of our two children. I look forward to the "empty nest" when our kids grow up and start their own independent lives. I eagerly look forward to retirement when Jennie and I can travel at our own pleasure. I am still working and striving to be a more considerate and helpful spouse. It is not easy being married to me :-) I am and will always be eternally grateful to my wife. QED
