Barbara,

Yes the Titanic was built in Belfast.

The Titanic was one of a trio of ships built by Harland and Wolf for the White Star Line.

The trio of ships were going to be named names, after the Olympians, the Titans, and the Giants from classical mythology.

Since it was tradition that all White Star ships have names ending in "ic", the Olympians became Olympic, Titans became Titanic, and Giants became Giagantic.

However, after the Titanic disaster the name of the unbuilt third ship was renamed after the Britons and all of Britannia to become the Britannic.
