Rope beds were ommon years ago. I have seen some modern beds that weren't as comfortable as these probably were.

Cool . . . a rope bed is just the ticket for sleeping out in the hot, humid evenings down here when A/C just isn't available. More comfortable than a hammock (though not as portable) too.
