I just thought of this....

I was just thinking about filesharing and i thought up a new way to conceal the fact that you are sharing illegal material. What if all media files were renamed to dat files with #'s before them all. E.G. "15676345.dat". Pretty innocent looking huh? I think this would help to conceal files from the RIAA. And you could have a master list somewhere else on the internet locked by a password that you would use to figure out the code for the file you want. Like most people know what bitzi is right? It could be like Bitzi, but all the files were named.... Ah you get the idea..... Just thinking as usual, so what do you people think?

The only complication would be labeling files with numbers. That would need its own program. There's a project for you software dev.s out there....

Come on people I really want to know what some of you think of this idea.

it's too complicated. firstly, if you name the file as some funny name or extension, no one will know what it actually contain. if people have to go to so much trouble to find out about the contencts and get hold of the file they'll simply give up and try other means. but if it's too easy, then there's no point since the authorities will also figure out what's in the files.

Its a good idea, but as of yet it is not neccesary. Programmers usually only go to such extremes when they know that they can't do anything else. Anyway, there is always the chance that the master list of dat files is taken by an RIAA member, or that they would subpoena the host's ISP and get the list anyway. Basically, there are too many leaks for if it were to become a big network of users... I'd just prefer to send files over MIRC or trade with a few fellows who I can trust.

So far the licensing companies haven't put much pressure on fansub groups. And dvdrip groups continue to roam free due to its compact size. Until anime piracy really influence dvd sales you have nothing to worry about.

This strictly applies to anime only.

I think you people are right. Thered have to be an alternative to a master list.

I probably dont know wtf im talking about but, could u just dl it, then put it in a seperate folder, this way they cant track it down of kazaa or w/e, but i never herd of riaa, and i never knew they track u down or w/e... But if everyone did do that, you couldnt really "share" your files... but i duno, tell me if im rong or not -blah

Blah, you could put your downloaded files in a seperate folder, but that defeats the purpose of sharing files. Nobody would be able to get them, and if everybody did that, there would be no more shared files ever again... Sends shivers down my spine... ugghhh...
