heating effects

what exactly happnens when a barrel over heats,does it effect accuracy alot or is it just a minor thing. also does it effect the barrel or rifling forever.

there is stess in every barrel(even cryo dont take it all out)and as a barrel heats it reacts to this stress,the hotter it gets the more it reacts,usaly they shoot higher but can do any number of things,lighter barrels heat faster and react more than heavier ones, but they all react to some degree,overheating can damage a barrel and shorten its life,to what amount depends on the barrel and how hot it gets,larger charges of powder and or faster burning powders produce more heat so you need to spread you shot string out as much as possible,steel also wears away faster the hotter it gets,bobby
