cartridge jamming

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MILDOT : One Thread

sometimes after a while of shooting the spent cartridge gets stuck almost like jammed in there and it's really hard to get out. I was wondering is it the ammunation that im using or is it normal for it to jam sometimes.

Thanks,Josh

if its hard to extract a fired round it very well could be a dirty chamber,it could also be to hot of a round, are you shooting handloads or factory rounds?check to see if your fired primers are flating out, make sure after you clean your chamber that you wipe out all oil in it, it's normal to be a little tight when extracting a fired round as compaired to chambering a live one,but should not be hard to extract, are you shooting to fast and heating things up too much? remove your bolt and check the lugs, look at the edges to see if they are rounding off from beiing to tight of a lock up,bobby

When cleaning your rifle do not neglect the chamber. Some jamming has become apparent when using the cheaper ammo available that has a lacquer(?) coating on the cartridge cases. Gums up the chamber. If it does not jam consistantly it's probably not the rifle. (does not sound like chamber erosion though you could have a gunny check your ejector assy. Good luck. Pete

i have a Remington 700 308 win. i dont think that its because i always clean the rifle after every 25 rounds to make sure that it wont loose any of its accuracy or malfunction in any way. it usally happens when the barrel gets really hot.

thanks,Josh

jamming is never normal,it does happen but there is always a reason,it just dont jam " just because",if it only does it after you shot for a while its more than likely dirty, coud be other things though, what type of rifle?bobby
