Converting Quicktime Movies to playable fromat on DVD Player

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hi,

Does anyone know if you can play Quciktime Movies on a DVD player or if I can convert the Quicktime movies to a format that will play on my DVD players. And how to do the conversion? I have two different DVD palyers and they play everything from VCDs, to MP3s, to all region DVDs (region 1,2,3). Can anyone offer offer any suggestions?

Thank you for your input

Use Ulead Video Studio to read Quicktime file. You can then output to a format you like (VCD, SVCD, DVD).

I believe http://www.vcdhelp.com has some guides on doing this conversion with various programs. I've never done this kind of conversion so I can't offer any pointers, but generally the guides at VCDhelp are pretty good and tell you everything you need to know. There's probably some freeware or something cheaper than Ulead that you can use to do it.

TMPG Encoder with QT plugin will convert MOV files to Mpeg.

I have tried loads of different programs and utlities to convert .mov files into avi,mpg etc. without 100% of the conversion working so far here is what I have found out

TMPGEnc this program with it's filter does not convert .mov properly all the time sometimes it freezes midway through although the sound contiunes normally.

Vegas Video 4 Highy Expensive and in my case completly useless only encoded first 5 seconds anyone got any idea's on that one

River Past The conversions this produces are of low quality unless I'm doing something wrong and again jams up midway through conversion process

U lead studio 8 this dosen't work period please somebody explain how to do this

Quick time pro 6 this will not let me save the file to another format message this files does not allow saving

Using the program dumpster to examine the file I cannot find the so called nasaf etc files that should have unkown data in them which you change to 0's so that you can save the file in another format afterwards.

So far I have tried at least a dozen programs for converting .mov to other formats and none of them work correctly as people have said they would WELL DONE APPLE FOR PRODUCING THE MOST PIG IGNORANT MOVIE FILE SYSTEM THAT MAN COULD DEVISE STEVE JOBBS GET THE NEXT ROCKET TO MARS SO YOU CAN'T PRODUCE THIS SORT OF CRUD IN THE FUTURE

Seriously folks any solutions would be more than welcome as this is driving me nuts

We open QuickTime movies in QuickTime Player Pro and Export to Uncompressed AVI. We then use TMPEGEnc to encode the AVI to VCD/SVCD/DVD etc. 100% success rate. NOTE: If QuickTime player reports "the movie does not allow saving" the MOV file you have has been locked by the creator (you can use encoding tools like Discreet Cleaner to do this) so no editing, converting or saving can be performed. This is a method of content copy protection not a bug or fault. Hope this helps :-)
