I heard in a class that I took on Islam that Mary is the most revered woman is Islam. But I never got an answer to why. Does anyone know why she is so important to Islam?

I believe it is because she is recognized as the mother of Jesus, and Jesus is considered one of Allah's greatest prophets.

The most important reason is, the muslims believe that Mary was a virgin, and they adress Jesus as Jesus, born to virgin Mary. It seems like the protestants and other sects are the ones who do not "understand" the fact that it is natural that God be born as man without the natural procreation method because he cannot be "created" just like that. He assumed the form, and out of humility he allowed himself to be born from a woman and lived among us. Even though the muslims do not understand the concept of 3 persons in God and do not accept Jesus as the son of God, even they understand the importance of St Mary.

Just to avoid confusion, I wasn't saying that he assumed the form as if it was an illusion. Since he cannot be created, he assumed the form of man by becoming one, but not as a result of human procreation.

not that i give 2 figs what Muslims believe, they also consider the Blessed Virgin, and Lord Jesus, to be born without original sin (or their own manmade version of original sin).
