M4 Carbine

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MILDOT : One Thread

i was wondering what i could get for my new M4 that could make it more acurate or better to handle so the shooting is alota fun. right now all i have is a red dot laser scope. i was thinking of getting a sling because ive heard that it can make the rifle very stable when used properly.

thanks.

iron sights is all you need

Red dot scopes are nice. Assault slings are cute. Hell, the FN FAL is a great rifle. I'm guessing you arent a whole lot older than 25. The M4 carbine is bat out of hell accurate and packs a pretty good knock down at any distance under 200 meters. But out past that, you start wading into the murky waters of the larger cartridges (i.e. 7.62, .338). Having taken an M4 into combat, I think I'm in a pretty good spot to say Learn the basics first. Good marksmanship starts with all the fundamentals (breathing, trigger squeeze, cheek to stock, etc, etc). After you master that, you can start to get cool things like free floating barrels, match grade triggers, advanced optics. Learn the easy things, then worry about parts. P.S. I've never used a sling for anything other than to put my weapon on my person to carry.

That is a very nice weapon. A red dot sight is just the thing to make shooting fun. If I was you I would buy the cheapest ammo you can find in .223 and plink away. Try different postitions and shoot at junk. A sling works nice but can get in the way if not starched and used properly. Happy plinkin.

How about you just go out and buy an FN FAL, god I'm only 15 years old and I can shoot better than anyone in my county. The only thing I can really say about accurate/long range shooting is first off, get a RIFLE, not a CARBINE...first master your iron sights, as some other guy on here said, then get yourself a good 3-9 x 40mm scope or something to that effect. If you can shoot good groups at 200 yards start getting serious and invest in a scope like a Bushmaster Elite 4200 4-12 x 40mm or 6-16 or something like that. And like I said, buy a RIFLE, maybe an AR-15, or grab 400 bucks out of your savings and buy an Imbel upper receiver and parts kit and build yourself an FAL like I did, you won't be sorry!

ya'll are a bunch of gun slinging hicks. You make the match riflemen and sportsmen have a bad name. What you do is not sportsmanship it is plain stupid. i have been shooting the m4 and the ar 15 since i was a youngin at camp perry. you need to rethink your actions and join your local match rifle team to better further america and her progress tward humaity.good luck to you all and good riddence!

M4 Carbine huh? You guys must be american, were im from anything semi-automatic is highly illegal. you have to go through hell just to acquire a farmyard rifle.

you should get used to the iron sites on the rear of the carrying handle. With the sling it is more comfortable to carry. oh and i highly recommend a telescopic site if you are serious about your shooting.

first, youneed to master your iron sights(ie. no optics)second, the stability of the weapon had little to do with a sling and has everything to do with proper cheek to stock weld, breathing and sight alignment. if you have not yet put these fundementals into pracice, you need to in order to get the most out of your rifle. on a carbine, your primary focus is targets at about 3 to 150 meters and since it is not a sniper rifle, the sling you would find most useful is probably a 3 point tactical sling,(ie blackhawk or boonie packer) place less emphasis on gadgets and gizmos and more on basic marksmansip. good luck and good shooting!

Get yourself a CQB Solutions SOP (or similar) sling, it makes the rifle very nice to carry around.
