David is correct, the definition of a Christian simply means "Christ-like".

We might say to be like Christ, we must be: humble, meek, gentle, full of love, etc. Christ's life is characterized by all these, therefore, be like Christ.

Let's get to the root or basis of the matter: how would you characterize Christ's whole life in one phrase?

This is impossible for us. So Christ does it for us.

In John 4:34, "Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work."

In John 5:30 He said: "I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me."

In John 6:38 Jesus said: "For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me."

In Matt. 26:39 the text states: "And He went a little further, and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt."

Therefore, to be like Christ we must at all times seek after the Father's will.

Would this not correct all our religious differences?

Not what I believe, or what I think, or what I feel, but what the Father wills.

What Is The Will Of The Father In Heaven???

Matt. 17:1-5 states: "And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him."

Why hear Christ?

Heb. 1:1-2 says: "God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;"

John 12:48-50 says: "He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak."

The words of Christ are found in the New Testament. They include both what Christ personally said and what His apostles said by the direction of the Holy Spirit.

To be a Christian one must keep the commandments or words of Christ, for this is the will of the Father and to be Christ like means to do the will of the Father.

What Are The Words Or Commandments of Christ?

Remember, they (the words of Christ) shall judge us on the last day.

John 12:48 states:"He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day."

Faith in God; John 14:1 "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me."

Faith in Jesus is required; John 8:24 "I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins." John 14:1 "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me."

Repentance is required; Luke 13:3, 5 "I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."

Confession is required; Matt. 10:32-33 "Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven."

Baptism is required; Matt 28:19 "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:" Mark 16:16 "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned."

Conclusion: Are you a Christian today? In the sight of men, your own sight, or in the sight of God?
