is my rifle accurate enough?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MILDOT : One Thread

to be used in a SWS? i have a Remington 700 ADL .30-06 (hunting version not the m-40 used in vietnam) with a Leupold vari-II 3x9x40mm scope.

I shot between 0.5 and 0.7 MOA (13-19mm at 100 yards) 3 shot groups.

Im thinking about floating the barrel, adjusting trigger pressure and buying a bi-pod to increase the "potency" of my rifle.

thanks for any input on this matter!

I have now floated the barrel and adjusted the trigger pull, i even got a nice tight "slack" that i like before the pin drops. I floated it just enough so i can fit a piece of newspaper (real thin) all the way up to where the barrel is locked into the stock (about where the scope starts) Trigger pull is about 3-3.5 lbs (1.5 kg)

Oh and i made sure safety was still maintained, i slammed it pretty good into the floor.

Canīt wait to see what will happen downrange

your bolt and bolt recever is you action on a bolt rifle, some include the trigger group in there, but to me the trigger group is a seperate group, bobby

yes that sounds like what i had in mind, the trigger is aweful as it is right now and remington suggest u turn the rifle in to a dealer to adjust trigger pressure but is that really necessary?

When you say action what do you mean then?

i've done several 700's and some of the stocks are pretty bad,i would start with bedding job for the action and float the barrel,if the funds are there you could have the action trued, check your headspacing,(i put on a match barrel)the 700 trigger can be made pretty good or it can be replaced,if you use a bipod make sure you forend is stiff enough so it dont contact the barrel, theres a lot more you can do with a 700 and you dont have to do it all at once, you can do it as you get the money, and you can work with your ammo and have some fun and get some good practice trying them out,and all the time you spend behind the stock is worth as much as any inprovment you can do to a rifle, bobby
