location of goat island at san francisco

greenspun.com : LUSENET : San Francisco History : One Thread

When dining at kulatos on the waterfront in San Francisco I could see an area connected to a very long curved pier or sea wall that looked very much like a place I was sent to in 1941, while in the navy, awaiting sea transportation to Pearl Harbor. Was this Goat island I was seeing ?

http://www.zpub.com/sf50/sf/hcmybi.htm Goat Island url, Hope this answers your question. Urba Buena Island is also called "Treasure Island" now and was a Naval Transport terminal located in the middle of the San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge. I believe the curved pier you saw is Municiple Pier at Aquatic Park (Fishermans Wharf)in San Francisco.

Yerba Buena and Treasure Island are two seperate locations, yet connected. Treasure Island is the man made flat area of the Islands two sections, Yerba Buena is the natural high rocky section, which was know as Goat Island, amoung other names in the past. There was a Naval Station called Goat Island Naval Station located on Yerba Buena (Goat Island) in the past, and now used by the Coast Guard. Regards... Jim
