i have a polaroid PDC640 and 2 smartmedia cards and the reader reads them,shows the pictures ,put them in my camara and 402 error apears on the camara window.so the cards still good.so how do you reformat a smatrcard any one know?

I am having the same problem only i bought a smartmedia card and cannot get it to format.. it keeps asking me FORMAT NOW.. or DON'T FORMAT.. I choose format now and it keeps telling me FORMAT FAILED. Did you find out anything on your question? My camera aks me several choices.. for your answer.. first press choose menu button (left hand side) it will then show on screen REVIEW.. DELETE.. LOCk... and show an arrow on right side (by the way--that arrow will let you time set for photos.. )anyway press the middle button on your left.. the DELETE choice.. .. then it asks DELETE CURRENT DELETE ALL and REFORMAT.. Press the bottom button REFORMAT on the left and it will ask FORMAT NOW... DON'T FORMAT choose the first button on the left FORMAT NOW and it will reformat.. your pictures are gone.. I HOPE THIS HELPS ... PLEASE tell me how you formated your disk in the first place....
