Why don't you go to usps.com and use the calcualte international postage section. That way you will know exactly how many stamps to use. You can even go to the post office and ask them how many you need. They're usually pretty nice and good about helping you. ^_^

Just go to USPS.com and click on the Calculate Postage tab. Then click on Calcualte International postage. Tell it approximately how much you envelope weighs and also tell it that you are mailing an envelope. It wont tell you how many stamps but it will tell you the $ amount it will cost to mail you money to Japan. Then all you have to do is add up the number of stamps it will take to equal that $ amount. See if that helps. ^_^

I looked it up for you. You can mail any envelope that's under 16 oz. for $4.05 cents to Japan using economy surface post (that's for 4- 6 week delivery). That would be 11 stamps.

I would suggest getting a weight on your envelope and sending it Airmail Letter Post (4-7 day delivery). If you don't have any change, in other words only bills, it should be fairly light. A 3 oz. package can be mailed this way for $2.60. That would be 8 stamps.

In case you don't know there are 16 oz. per pound. That should help you guesstimate the weight. ^_^
