1006 vs 1008 wire welding suitability

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Resistance Welding : One Thread

My company welds wire products of 1006 and 1008 steel. We sometimes have difficulty with roughness on the back side of a welded wire, not the weld itself. Is there any compatibility issue with the use of these 2 grades of steel together? Would it be preferable to specify the use of one over the other? We have 2 different suppliers of this wire. There seems to be some variation between the two of them from time to time in terms of how they perform. Any feedback on how to resolve that issue through my purchasing specifications would also be appreciated.
