greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I have captured some videos in mpeg2 using dvd-director card. VCD is ok after tmpgenc encoding but svcd does not work although i'm sure that my dvd player will work with svcd. What is the best template to be used. i am burning with nero version 5. Also i capture with digicam and make avi file. The same problem as the mpeg2.I am using 2.5 tmpgenc. My os is windows 2000. My captured files play back great in windows media player. Can somebody help me please.

With Nero, you need to use the SVCD template to make SVCDs. The problem most likely is that your DVD player does not support SVCD. Sony is notorious for making models that do not support the format. Try this. Take your SVCD file and demux it in TMPGenc. Then mux it using the VCD non-standard template. Then burn it as a VCD in Nero. Sony players that do not play SVCD but do play VCD will play SVCD if it is muxed and burned as a VCD. This is known as the "header trick" because muxing it as a VCD sets up the video header information so that the player will play it. There is no reason why a DVD player can't play SVCD except laziness by the manufacturer to write firmware that supports it. Burning it as a non-standard VCD is a work around for this problem.

Dear Friend,

Thanks a lot for your quick reply. I will try it soon and let u know. Earlier, I have not selected SVCD in Nero for burning to SVCD. I'll try it now. Thanks a lot once again.

Thanks a lot Mr. Root. I got the sVCD working on sony dvd player. I had forgotten to select the mpeg2 template in Nero while burning the cd. Thanks a lot. I remember the old story about Alauddin and the wonderful lamp. Your site is the "wonderful lamp". Keep up the good work. I have also lots of experience on vcd making and I would like to contribute to your site. Take care.
