Copper wire to tungsten wire weld

Hi, Can anyone tell me if it is possible to weld .001"dia copper wire to .001" dia tungsten wire ? If it is , what kind of welding equipment should I look for? Thanks

Sure it's possible. Small dissimilar metal welding is quite common. Most often this done in incandescent lamp assembly. They often weld a nichrome material as well. If you are wanting to butt weld them, a percussive arc welder is generally used. If you just want an overlap weld, a high frequency inverter (25Khz) works well. Use about 8lbs force, with a very fast follow up head, preferable electromagentic. You will never acheive a true fusion bond, but you can get a good solid state bond.
