Busy, busy summer!

Hi everyone,

Sorry its been so long since my last update, but I have been incredibly busy...it's been so long I don’t even know where to begin...hmmm...

First, a little reminder. I am doing my Master's at the University of Windsor and I'm in the Adult Clinical Psych program. I completed 8 coursed this past year, and I am currently working on my thesis. I'm hoping to propose in Sept. But I’m not sure yet, as my supervisor is going on sabbatical this coming year, and I don’t know when she'll be around (word of advise to those who are applying to grad school: talk to other grad students about the prof that you are interested in working with, and find out as much as you can about them and their relationships with students. Also ask when they are going on sabbatical and generally how busy they are. It is really hard to complete a proposal, let alone a thesis with your supervisor not around!!!) In these next three weeks, I will be trained on how to code my data, and I will hopefully finish up my proposal- already gone through several drafts, but its gotta be perfect for the committee! (in case anyone in wondering, my thesis is looking at the relationship between forgiveness and resolution of childhood abuse issues in adult survivors of abuse, specifically in emotion focused therapy- it's a complicated topic, but this is the gist- if anyone wants to know more, you can let me know, and I’d be more than willing to elaborate).

I am also going to start a practicum at the teen health center in July. I have to put in 500 hours over the summer on assessments (personality and cognitive assessments). Because I am starting so late this summer, I will hold this position part time over the school year. In the mean time, I hold two marking/ TA positions, which will end June 30th; one for stats and the other for abnormal psychology.

Before all this craziness, I did manage to find some time for a vacation. Actually, my aunt contacted my best friend and made arrangements behind my back...it was a total surprise: one week in Cuba, all-inclusive!!! It was a great vacation. We stayed at Sol Club Sirenas- highly recommend! I got a nice tan, met some great people...just a good time! I am also going to Ottawa for Canada day with a friend from Windsor. We are planning to stay there for a few days and the head to Algonquin to meet up with some other friends to camp. I am looking so forward to that, because at that point I’ll be needing another mini-vacation.

Well, that's all for now. Hope everyone is doing well. I'd love to hear more from people.

Helen

ps: it was really nice to read updates from TA's from my year- Michelle, Lisa Marie, Vesna, etc. Glad that things are going well with everyone, and tell us more!!!
