Does electrical stimulation help in osteonecrosis?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : About Joints : One Thread

One of our support group members recently asked if electrical stimulation (EMS)can help with osteonecrosis. Are there any benefits to it post-THR surgery, and if so, what are the benefits? Are there any benefits to it pre-surgery? Thank you. Marie Shanahan, Director of the ON/AVN Support Group International, Dir. of the NONF

Answers

There is not a definite answer. Some studies have showed electrical stimulation to be beneficial in early ON. It has no role in total hip arthroplasty or pre-surgery.
