It's probably not gonna happen if you're thinking about Reserves, definately more opportunities in the Regs. Good luck

I have been a sniper team leader with the Aust. Army for the past 6 years and I am still employed in that role.

To become a sniper you 1st have to become a rifleman in infantry corps.

Then after approx. 1-2 years in a battalion you may get the chance to attend an interview with the sniper cell of the unit.

If you have the potential you then are selected to attend pre- selection, 1 week of tests and pain to see how you operate under stress.

If you show potential you are then selected to attend the basic sniper course- 8 weeks of instruction and testing. This is about as far as many get. To give you an idea of the standard required on my course for pre-selection we had 30. Out of that only 4 were selected to do the basic of that 4 only 2 passed the course of those 2 only 1 went on to actually be in the sniper cell.

After 1 year as a number 2 you then attend the advanced team leader course.

Once in the aussie army, join the infantry corp as a rifleman specialist... after that its just a matter of time before an oppertunity pops up.
