Help! Weld tips alloying to base metal

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Resistance Welding : One Thread

I am projection welding on drawn enameling iron using RWMA class 3 tips. We have recently begun to have trouble with electrode material alloying to the base metal. This is giving us problems in subsequent finishing operations. Tried switching to a higher conductivity tip(class 2) with no improvement. I am looking for any suggestions on cause/correction. Thanks.

Leonard,

I would suggest trying welding tips with insert of TUNGCORE and alloy of copper and tungsten.

Try titanium coated tips. We use them to avoid zinc pickup on galvanized metal, and they don't pick up even a little bit of the galvanized. Tip life may be short because they are high resistance, so be sure that you use the largest size you can as they have better water flow.

Try Nitrode or Z-Trode electrodes.
