Cucumber Burpless Bush : LUSENET : : One Thread

I got a package of this seed and it had only ONE seed in it . Is this the correct amount or was I cheated ??? I usually plant 2-3 seeds to a hill in regular cucumber plantings to make sure at least one takes . I presume that these bushes are different? Also how late can these seeds be planted as I am getting a late start this year. Bob Peterson...

Hello Bob,

Mike from Victory Seeds here . . . sounds like a rip off to me. If you bought them at a retail outlet, I'd return them or contact the seed company that put out the packet. Larger companies use machinery to fill packets. Hoppers of seed can become jammed or empty and the result is empty or partially filled packets.

I know that this seed did not come from us for a couple of reasons. One is that it is not a variety that we offer (Spacemaster 80 would be a comparable substitute) and two, we fill our packets by hand as orders come in.

Regarding the number of seeds to plant in a hill . . . I am with you. Nature is not perfect so 100% germination rate is not to be expected. Throw in hungry insects and the survival rate decreases that much more. I too plant multiple seeds in a hill. Usually 3-4.

Best Regards,
