lots of pauses when watching any movies

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

HI every one,

I have been watching movies for a long time, I have a decent computer P 4- 1.6 Mhz Nvidia Geforce 2 64MB 640 mb ram

The movies that I watch are mostly Divx format or VCD.

I am using Windows XP pro + media Player 9.

The thing is that with every movie that I watch from the verry start of the movie there are pauses every second or so, you can hardly see them, you can see them mostly when there are long movements or moving trough the room or the credits and it is driving me mad.

I have tried everithing i could thing of I know computers, I downloaded the latest drivers for my video card played around with the settings of both the video card, Divx, the windows XP, DONT ASK! I have been watching movies in this computer for a long time and I dont recall seeing this before a week a go or maybe I didn't notice.

Here is the funny thing.

I have in the same computer another instance of windows XP that I had before and I went and rebooted the computer to that instance and guess what the samething happens there.

I couldn't believe it.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME?

I would really appreciated. thank you

You probably have a problem with a background service that is spiking RAM/CPU use. If the service has a higher priority than the movie player (think virus scan), it will hiccup. Look at your RAM usage and turn off anything that is bouncing around a lot of memory.
