Is there anyway to put brakes, accelerator, Gears (neutrral, drive/1st possibly reverse) on a vertical engine for a go-cart.

try going to a junkyard and finding a gear box from an old rideon mower and using it like a transmition of a car some have up to 3 gears forward and also reverse.
