Convert VCDs to DVDs ??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hi -

Is it possible to "rip" (a la .mp3s) a VCD, convert as needed, then write out as a DVD ?? A friend at work has a number of VCDs he bought in various parts of Asia, and he'd like to view them on his portable DVD player or Sony Vaio desktop PC.

What software would I need to do this ?? I'm running an iMac with MacOS 10.2.5, and have all the usual Mac software (iMovie, QuickTime, etc.).

Thanks !!

Possible - yes. http://www.vcdhelp.com has some guides on doing this. Basically you only have to convert the audio to 48 MHz and burn. However, some DVD authoring programs will not allow you to make DVDs with MPEG-1 video. This is unfortunate because DVD standards allow for this, but I have read that some programs only accept MPEG-2 video. As far as what you would use on a Mac, I have no idea.
